Description of the book "Bradley: A History of American Fighting and Support Vehicles":
Blitzkrieg! Germany shocked the world with its new mechanized way of war. The United States scrambled to respond and came up with a number of infantry and support vehicles based on existing light and medium tanks. Postwar development continued the wartime practice of adapting new tank designs as infantry and support vehicles. At me same time, new initiatives would result in a new, purpose-built infantry transport vehicle, the soon to be ubiquitous M113 Armored Personnel Carrier (the APC). To fight the Soviets on a modern, post-Vietnam battlefield, increased survivability and combat power were required. This resulted in PDF the Bradley family of infantry fighting and support vehicles.
